- Definition of RoHS
- RoHS is the acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products. All applicable products in the EU market after July 1, 2006 must pass RoHS compliance.
Odyssey Electronics is committed to full compliance to the European Parliament Directive 2002/95/EC, Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), across its entire hard disk drive product line. The law requires member state implementation by August 2004 with product compliance by July 2006.
The Directive was enacted into law by the countries of the European Union in February 2003. It restricts certain hazardous substances in an effort to address waste management problems linked to materials that are likely to pose risks to human health and the environment. Specifically, the RoHS Directive addresses the elimination of the following substances:
- Cadmium
- Hexavalent Chromium
- Lead
- Mercury
- PBBs (Polybrominated biphenyls)
- PBDEs (Polybrominated diphenyl ethers)
